The first baby teeth to erupt are usually the two lower front teeth. The order of primary teeth eruption (teething age) is as shown in the following baby teeth chart :

  • Central incisors
  • Lateral incisors
  • Canines
  • First molars
  • Second molars

Deciduous teeth are considered essential in the development of the oral cavity. The muscles of the jaw and the formation of the jaw bones depend on the primary teeth to maintain proper spacing for permanent teeth. The roots of deciduous teeth provide an opening for the permanent teeth to erupt. The deciduous teeth are also needed for proper development of a child's speech and mastication chewing of food.


Symptoms of teething

Some babies have an uneventful teething process while some struggle and experience discomfort. Symptoms are as below

  • Dribbling
  • Coughing
  • Cold – like Symptoms
  • Low – grade fever
  • Not sleeping well
  • Chin rash
  • Cheek rubbing and ear pulling
  • Diarrhoea
